De Utrechtse Klokkenspel Vereniging bestaat dit jaar 90 jaar. Een respectabele leeftijd. Maar het is goed te beseffen dat de Utrechtse beiaardcultuur al veel eerder ontstond. Zo’n vier eeuwen geleden legde Jonkheer Jacob van Eyck, tweede stadsbeiaardier van Utrecht, reeds de kiem daarvoor.

Voormalig stadsbeiaardier Arie Abbenes heeft blokfluitcomposities van Van Eyck gearrangeerd voor de beiaard. Ter gelegenheid van haar 18e lustrum en als eerbetoon aan Van Eyck heeft de UKV besloten deze muziek in de vorm van een muziekbundel uit te geven. Het eerste van de Zomeravondconcerten zal dan ook in het teken staan van Van Eyck.

Ook de daaropvolgende maandagen zullen weer afwisselende concerten door (inter)nationale beiaardiers ten gehore worden gebracht. Na afloop van elk concert zullen we u weer graag verwelkomen voor een drankje en een ontmoeting met de beiaardiers.Tijdens het slotconcert zal de muziek van Sting over onze stad worden uitgestrooid. De beiaardconcerten zullen daarna traditiegetrouw worden voortgezet tijdens het Festival Oude Muziek en op de beiaard in Vleuten.

Met vorenstaande en het feit dat we vorig jaar de organisatie van het Wereld Beiaardcongres 2023 toegewezen hebben gekregen, kunnen we vaststellen dat de Utrechtse beiaardcultuur ook na vier eeuwen nog steeds springlevend is. Allen die daaraan een bijdrage leveren, zeggen we heel veel dank.
